A Fully Analog Series

Beginning in 2025, Live to Tape at Retro City is a live, fully-analog recording series produced by Joe Boldizar at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia PA.

The process involves artists tracking live to 16 or 24 track 2” tape. The multitracks are then mixed and printed down to 2 track 1/4” tape. The mixdown reels are mastered and lacquer masters are cut onsite at Salt Mastering in Brooklyn NY . No computers are used anywhere in the process. The full performance is filmed. The final recording is released on vinyl, and the performance on VHS tape.

The series focuses on using analog technology to capture honest human performances.
